I have a question concerning Coast Guard search and rescue?

You might have seen a couple of posts up here from me before, but forgive me, I am young, inquisitive, and to be truthful, not knowledgeable about a lot of things that deal with this nature. I have wanted to be a CG officer, whether it be reserves or active duty, for a very long time now. However, I am seriously considering enlisting in the reserves while I am still in college, so that way I can build up a better resume than the one I have, in hopes to get into either ROCI or OCS. Since I am a Emergency Management major, if I do enlist, I am hoping to get a spot as a OS, or Operations Specialist. If that is the case, how much face-to-face action will I see? In other words, as an OS rate, will I actually be out there helping to save the people, and if not, what is/are the jobs that directly deal with that?
